Washed coco peat is a versatile and environmentally friendly growing medium suitable for a wide range of gardening, agricultural, and hydroponic applications. This coco peat is washed, not buffered, and must be buffered before use to ensure optimal plant health.

One of the main advantages of washed coco peat is its excellent moisture retention, allowing plants to remain consistently hydrated while still maintaining good root aeration. Each compressed brick expands to approximately 60–70 litres when fully hydrated, providing a generous volume of usable growing medium.

Washed coco peat is naturally pH-neutral and free from harmful pathogens and pests. However, because it is not pre-buffered, it can bind calcium and magnesium, which may lead to nutrient deficiencies if used untreated. Proper buffering with a calcium and magnesium solution is strongly recommended before planting.

This washed coco peat can be used as a standalone growing medium or blended with other amendments such as perlite or vermiculite to improve drainage and structure. It is also suitable for use as a soil conditioner or top dressing to improve soil aeration and moisture retention.

To prepare for use, rehydrate the compressed block with water and allow it to fully expand. Before planting, buffer the coco peat by soaking it in a calcium- and magnesium-rich nutrient solution to stabilise the medium and prevent nutrient lockout. Once buffered, it is ready for use in pots, beds, or containers.

Washed coco peat is well suited to hydroponic and soilless growing systems, including drip irrigation and passive setups. Its strong water-holding capacity and excellent drainage support healthy root development. Because it requires buffering, careful preparation is essential before use in hydroponic systems.
